Good morning! As I sit down to write this post, I realize, having started my day at 3:40 am, I have nearly three hours of work under my belt. Really? It feels as if I’ve been up only a few minutes. This is what happens when I’m fully engaged in a task, without distraction. And, thus, the reason I love my morning time more than any other time of the day.
As the rest of the world awakens, I will become distracted by emails, texts, phone calls, my to-do list, walking the dog, household duties, and sundry other events. However, that’s life and I enjoy the engagement, the hustle-bustle, and even the unpredictability, too.
For now though, it’s quiet, I’m at peace, I’m energized. I enjoyed watching the sliver of moon fade and now the rising sun lightens the sky; the day is full of promise!
If you’re wondering, yes, I’ve always been a morning person. However, I’ve amped it up a little because of a recent conversation I had with friends.
During this conversation I learned something very interesting about The Missus: Apparently, no matter how soundly she is sleeping, no matter her health, no matter her going-to-bed mood, she wakes with a big smile! The Mister explained for twenty years, no matter how she is awaken, The Missus wakes up smiling. I’m impressed. I mean, I consider myself a happy person, but I am not at all gracious when woken, especially unexpectedly!
When I wake naturally, I always spend a few minutes offering thanks for being alive. Taking inspiration from my friends, I now add a smile to my face before opening my eyes. It’s amazing how that simple change impacts my entire day in a positive way! Of course, it will take some practice to incorporate such aplomb when I’m awaken by a blaring television, snoring husband, or scratching dog, but I’m willing to give it a shot.
As you begin your day, I hope you find a few moments of quiet for yourself and remember, tomorrow when you wake up, put a smile on your face, for you are alive!
Have a wonderful day!
